Five things you should know about us

When we talk about housebuilding, we mean the whole sector

Our work covers all aspects of investment, acquisition, development (including plot sales and housing association sales), finance, planning, environmental, construction and issues around affordable housing. We call it a cradle-to-grave approach, where every aspect is covered seamlessly, whether from the point of view of the builder, developer, landowner or financial institution.

We are the only law firm to operate in all three UK jurisdictions

That matters because it means we can offer a consistent approach throughout the country. With offices in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast and Aberdeen, we are able to maintain closer client relationships and respond more quickly to changing events.

Our team has the perspective that only decades of experience bring

In the current climate, it's worth noting that senior members of our team have been through at least three economic downturns and subsequent recoveries in the past. Our dedicated knowledge management function includes a detailed precedent library and ensures the right lessons are transferred from one project to the next. Each of our clients is effectively tapping into a wealth of experience that stretches back decades and across the entire sector.

We may know the market, but we're not bound by its conventions

We've always regarded it as part of our job to think creatively about the challenges our clients face and develop innovative structures to match. That often means putting together multi-disciplinary teams, drawing on talent and knowledge from other areas within our firm. That's a lot easier when you're part of one of the biggest and most respected full-service commercial law firms in the country.

Our clients are happy to agree

The best judges of our success will always be our clients. Here's what a few of them have to say.

"Experience in property is very valuable to me, but it's not just a purely legal perspective that McGrigors lawyers bring – they are also pragmatic and streetwise."

Angus Donaldson, Director of Estates, The University of Aberdeen

"In my experience McGrigors has the back up to provide quick, understandable and reliable advice on all aspects of property deals. They have been 'over the course' before and this couple with their undoubted people skills, accelerates the deal process."

Kevin Whitaker, Director, CALA Homes

"McGrigors' sector knowledge, strength in depth and national coverage means that I can approach any individual housebuilding project in the knowledge that whatever area of legal expertise is required, McGrigors will invariably provide it in-house."

Nicholas Dulcken, Land Buying Director, Fairview New Homes

"I have worked with the Housebuilding Team at McGrigors on a number of recent deals. I have found their advice to be of the highest quality, to the point and, above all, commercial. Their knowledge of the market and their ability to cut through the legalease is excellent."

Nick Pendlebury, MD, Ipsus Developments
