Gary is a senior associate in the environment team and is based in our Glasgow office.
Expertise
Gary is a member of the firm's Planning and Environment team and advises across the UK in relation to all aspects of planning and environmental law including contaminated land, Environmental Impact Assessment, pollution prevention and control and waste management. Gary has particular experience advising on the planning and consenting issues arising in the context of energy and renewable energy projects (onshore and offshore). Gary is also experienced in commercial property work for projects within the minerals and renewable energy sectors.
Recent Successes:
- advising Bidders on all consenting aspects in connection with their participation in the Round 3 offshore wind farm programme including the introduction of the Infrastructure Planning Commission and the alternative consenting routes which might apply
- acting for Lewis Wind Power Limited in relation to its S.36 Electricity Act consent application for a major wind farm on the north of Lewis, advising on both property and consenting
- advised a developer in connection with the submission of planning application for an Energy from Waste facility with Combined Heat and Power capability and front-end Materials Recovery Facility, including strategic legal review of supporting statements (planning statement, design and access statement) and Environmental Statement for the project
- advising renewable energy developers and operators on the property, planning and environmental aspects of schemes across the UK including wind farms (onshore and offshore), energy from waste and carbon capture and storage (CCS)
- conducting due diligence and negotiating indemnities and warranties in relation to planning and environmental issues - in particular contaminated land - in connection with numerous financing, corporate/commercial and M & A transactions
