Expertise
Alastair has extensive experience in public affairs at both a Scottish and UK level, including corporate affairs, social inclusion, economic issues, and corporate social responsibility. He advises clients on policy issues, legislative proposals and matters of concern to the Scottish Executive and Scottish Parliament including drafting consultation responses, providing policy analysis, procedural advice, coalition building and grass roots campaigning.
Alastair is Convener of the Association for Scottish Public Affairs, and a Board Member of the Centre for Scottish Public Policy.
Recent Successes:
- advised clients on the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Bill during its passage through the Scottish Parliament, including the submission of written and oral evidence
- provided training for FTSE 100 companies on giving evidence to parliamentary committees
- advised clients on the Damages (Asbestos-related Conditions) (Scotland) Bill during its passage through the Scottish Parliament, and on the judicial review of the Damages (Asbestos-related Conditions) (Scotland) Act in the Court of Session
- convened discussion dinners with senior policymakers from Government and Parliament
- advised an international financial services client on the communication of a major corporate restructure to its key stakeholders, securing understanding and support from the vast majority of interested parties
- provided a leading banking group with strategic public affairs advice, including advice and preparation for an Executive Director for giving evidence to the Parliamentary committees at Westminster and Holyrood
- conducted a reputation and perception audit for a global restaurant group
- provided strategic advice, training, and practical support to a number of clients on a major piece of health legislation and associated regulations
- advised an international engineering and support services business on its engagement in Scotland including the development of key Ministerial and other stakeholder relationships
- delivered a series of seminar events for an international engineering consultancy to give their international thought-leaders the opportunity to address policymakers
