Expertise

David is a Chartered Accountant. From 1981to 2009 he was a partner and then a Senior Advisor in the London Office of KPMG.

David has wide experience of advising listed companies and owner managed businesses on all aspects of taxation.

Recent Projects:

Until 2009 David was in charge of resolving contentious tax issues within the Professional Practice department of KPMG. Of necessity such work is and must remain confidential but an example of his work already in the public domain is the case of Browallia Cal v HMRC (2004 STC 296) where the taxpayers application to lodge an out of time appeal was accepted by the High Court.

Before joining Professional Practice David's client work included:

  • Advising and assisting Johnson Matthey on their ultimately successful case against HMRC (1992 STC 466) where the House of Lords allowed a trading deduction for a large lump sum payment.
  • Devising and implementing the Eurotunnel Group Structure (which led inter alia to lunch in the tunnel under the channel with Margaret Thatcher – and many others)
