McGrigors confirmed as a top tax litigation firm in the new Chambers and Partners Directory

UK law firm McGrigors LLP is delighted to announce its classification in Band 1 for Contentious Tax in Chambers and Partners 2008 Directory.

The award-winning tax litigation and investigations team, led by partners James Bullock and Jason Collins, has become well known as a leader in its sector and forms part of one of the country's most successful national litigation teams.

In its 2008 Directory, Chambers and Partners has acknowledged the firm as having “really carved itself a niche in this area.” It is dubbed “competent and shrewd” by clients impressed with its work, as well as its “strong substantive tax knowledge and great litigation skills.”

Referring to the capabilities of the team's three partners, Chambers and Partners comments:

James Bullock is hailed as a “super tax litigator” with “great attention to detail and good taste in counsel.” His energy and approachability have made him an extremely popular figure on the scene.”

Jason Collins is the subject of equally high praise for “quickly understanding the commercial points and client priorities”. His commitment to client service makes him “highly focused on delivering a result,” according to sources.”

Rupert Shiers is “technically among the best.” Acclaimed as incisive and thorough, he spends the majority of his time on civil direct tax litigation.”

Commenting on the team’s success, James Bullock, National Head of Litigation at McGrigors said, “I am extremely proud of the exceptional work that the team has carried out in order to be awarded a Band 1 classification by Chambers and Partners.  This is fantastic recognition of our achievements over recent years and reinforces our position as one of the UK’s leading litigation teams.”

Specialising in all forms of contentious tax, from anti-avoidance litigation through to criminal investigations, McGrigors’ 18-strong London tax team recently won the highly prestigious ‘Best Tax Team in a Law Firm’ at the Taxation Awards for the second consecutive year.  The team has acted on a number of high profile direct and indirect tax cases and was recently appointed "Lead Solicitors" in the High Court "VAT Interest Cars" group litigation order, the first of its kind in which a number of car dealerships are seeking compound interest on VAT refunds going back to the 1970's.
