Press Release 08 October 2007 McGrigors promotes tax litigation specialists UK law firm McGrigors LLP has today announced two senior promotions within its double award-winning tax litigation and investigations team. James Bullock joined the KLegal partnership prior to its merger with McGrigor Donald back in 2002. He has been promoted from head of the London litigation group to become national head of litigation. Jason Collins will now step-up to become national head of tax litigation. Both partners are based in the firm’s London office and their new roles came into effect on 1st October 2007. In his new role, James will be responsible for the firm's contentious practices in England and Scotland. He will manage a nationwide team of 75. James is one of the UK’s leading contentious tax practioners and has over fifteen years' experience advising in relation to large and complex investigations by the UK tax authorities and of handling tax litigation at all levels from the Special Comissioners and VAT Tribunal to the House of Lords. He is a member of the Council of the VAT Practitioners Group, a member of the Tax Investigations Practitioners Group and of the Worshipful Company of Tax Advisers. Colin Gray, Managing Partner, commented: “James is a leader in his field of law and his experience is a huge asset to our firm. He will now be running one of the most successful teams in this sector, and we are looking to him to build this further into one of the most successful national litigation teams, which continues to grow from strength to strength.” Jason Collins’ promotion to head of tax litigation will mean responsibility for the 17-strong team, which recently won the highly prestigious ‘Best Tax Team in a Law Firm’ at the Taxation Awards for the second consecutive year. The team specialises exclusively in actual or potentially contentious tax matters. Jason has been with McGrigors (and previously KLegal) for seven years and was made partner in 2005. His team has recently been appointed "Lead Solicitors" in the High Court VAT Interest Cars" group litigation order, the first of its kind in which a number of car dealerships are seeking compound interest on VAT refunds going back to the 1970's. Colin Gray, Managing Partner, commented: “Jason has been central in overseeing the rapid growth of the tax litigation team in terms of both size and volume of clients, alongside James Bullock”. The team is regarded as market leading by its peers and is well positioned to help clients particularly in the light of the Revenue's new Litigation and Settlement Strategy which brings dispute resolution to the forefront of tax practice. The tax litigation team recently announced its fourth appointment this year. George Gillham, joined the firm from Dorsey & Whitney as a senior solicitor, reinforcing the team's position as the largest dedicated contentious tax practice in the UK.
