McGrigors advises energy giants on joint offshore wind farm bid
UK law firm McGrigors has advised energy giants Iberdrola and Vattenfall on their joint venture to establish East Anglia Offshore Wind Limited and the vehicle’s successful bid for rights to develop a wind farm off the coast of Norfolk and Suffolk.
The bid is part of the Crown Estate’s Round 3 leasing programme for the delivery of up to 25 GW (gigawatts) of new offshore wind farm sites by 2020. It is the world’s most ambitious offshore wind programme with nine zones to be awarded which could supply around one third of the UK’s electricity supplies when completed. East Anglia Offshore Wind Limited has been awarded Zone 5.
The McGrigors team which advised the JV was led by energy partner Euan McVicar. He said: “Round 3 will take the offshore wind market to a new level and the firm’s involvement in advising Iberdrola and Vattenfall on their joint venture is a testament to our strength in depth in this area.”
McGrigors’ energy team has been involved in a variety of capacity in Round 1 and Round 2 projects as part of the leasing programme by the Crown Estate, which owns the seabed out to the 12 nautical mile territorial limit around the UK’s coastline.
The energy team also has substantial experience in onshore wind, North Sea exploration and production, oil services, maritime and shipping and construction and financing solutions for the new generation of offshore wind farms.
