McGrigors supports charity Burns celebration
A host of Scottish celebrities from the world of film, theatre and the arts will be celebrating Robert Burns’ 250th anniversary at a fundraising dinner in Glasgow on 24 January 2009. National law firm McGrigors is sponsoring the event organised by Revive MS Support, which aims to raise £100,000 for those affected by multiple sclerosis.
Recognised as part of Homecoming Scotland’s World Famous Burns Supper Celebration, the star-studded evening is being hosted by BAFTA award-winning actress Kathleen McDermott and will also feature Bill Barclay, James Cosmo and novelist Denise Mina.
The evening will consist of a traditional burns supper with the famous ‘address to the Haggis’ from Emmy award-winning actor Brian Cox and the immortal memory from deputy First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon.
An auction will also take place for the opportunity to be immortalised by acclaimed artist Doug Scott in a painting featuring a montage of Burns life as well as to own a signed top from another great Scot, Andy Murray courtesy of Highland Spring.
Nicola Sturgeon, Deputy First Minister, said: “Next year Scotland will host its first ever Homecoming celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the birth of our national bard Robert Burns. Homecoming 2009 will celebrate Scotland's great contributions to the world: Golf, Whisky, Great Scottish minds and innovations, our rich ancestry, culture and heritage and Burns himself.
“An inspirational programme of over 200 events is planned for Homecoming and people around the world, with either a family link or an affinity for Scotland, are invited to visit Scotland in 2009 and take part in this celebration.
“It is an honour for me to provide the immortal memory during this fundraising dinner.”
Richard Masters, managing partner of McGrigors, said “As a national law firm we are proud of our Scottish heritage and have been sponsors of Scotland’s home grown talent over the years. It’s fantastic that so many companies and well known Scots have pledged their support for this worthwhile cause.”
