Why McGrigors?

About Us

There are many aspects of McGrigors which make us a firm to consider when applying for a training contract these include the following:

  • We have a blue chip client list including public and private sector clients in the FTSE and middle market sectors, national and multi national organisations including KPMG, BP, Royal Bank of Scotland, O2, Royal Mail, and UfI.

  • You will become a known face and can experience seats in other offices – enjoy a totally different city and lifestyle, increase your breadth of experience and receive a broad range of legal work. Our departments range in size from three to over forty, with twelve to fifteen first year trainees in each office except Belfast and Aberdeen.

  • There are opportunities for secondments to clients (KPMG, O2, BP, Scottish Power, and the Royal Bank of Scotland).

  • We enjoy a best friends relationship with KPMG.

  • Our newly qualified retention rates across the UK for 2007 were 77%.

  • We offer excellent training. The following comment came from the Law Society monitoring report, "I consider that McGrigors is to be congratulated on the thorough and detailed approach it has to the training of trainee solicitors."

  • We were recently nominated for 'Best Trainer' and Best Vacation Scheme by LawCareers.net.

  • Our Tax Litigation team won the coveted Best tax Team in a Law Firm category at the LexisNexis Butterworths Taxation Awards 2007 for the second consecutive year.  They were also classified as Band 1 in Contentious Tax in Chambers and Partners Directory 2008.

  • McGrigors consists of a wide range of departments - banking and finance, construction procurement, corporate, dispute resolution, employment & pensions, intellectual property & commercial, pensions, planning and environment, oil & gas, project finance, projects, private equity, public law, public policy, real estate, tax litigation, and telecoms.

  • We have offices in London (204 people), Edinburgh (189), Glasgow (232), Aberdeen (44), Belfast (15) and manchester (3). We also have an office in the Falkland Islands, and an associated office in Azerbaijan.

  • UK firm - we are the only UK law firm to practice in all three UK jurisdictions.

  • A well established firm, McGrigors was born out of a merger between McGrigor Donald and KLegal (who were associated with KPMG). McGrigor Donald have been around for over 100 years and KLegal started in 1999. The merger happened in 2002 and in 2004 the Firm rebranded as McGrigors.

  • You can enjoy early responsibility and involvement - you may be the main contact for the client.

  • We offer competitive pay and benefits – lunch vouchers of £2.70 a day, pension, season ticket loan, life assurance income protection, private medical cover and Cycle to Work scheme.

  • We encourage our staff to be involved in Pro Bono and volunteering work under our CSR initiative ‘Horizons’.  The Firm was named Scotland’s CSR Firm of the Year at the Scottish Legal Awards in February 2008.
