Secondments
When you choose your seat preferences you
can state that you would like to go on a secondment. The
training department who deal with all the allocations
will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of their ability.
Our secondments can take the format of any of the below;
- To other offices
- To KPMG
- To Clients
- To Falkland Islands
To other offices
You may be required to do a six month seat
in another office which offers a great opportunity to
enjoy a totally different city and lifestyle, increase
your breadth of experience and undertake a broad range
of legal work. Around 10 of our total trainee
population (71 across the UK) are seconded to another office every six months. Individual circumstances and wishes are always considered regarding allocation of these seats.
If you are seconded to another office
then you will be provided assistance in terms of;
- A day off and travel to your destination city to find accommodation;
- A day off to relocate;
- Travel paid for you to move to your
new office and in addition you will be entitled to two
economy class journeys to return home during your secondment;
and
- Costs towards moving your belongings
and costs of living in your new location.
To KPMG
We currently have four secondments to KPMG
offices, but this number is reviewed each year. Three are based in London near our Old Bailey office and one is in Edinburgh office.
These happen due to our unique relationship with KPMG
as "best friends". The placements are for one
seat (six months) and have the approval of the Law Society.
You will be supervised by a KPMG Manager
and a McGrigors supervisor and have three-monthly reviews.
To Clients
We have some seats as secondments to clients.
Sometimes these are for the full six months and others
are for three months.
These offer a great opportunity to be at
the front line and to be the McGrigors contact with the
Firm. Clients who have offered secondments include; RAB
Capital, O2, Royal Bank of Scotland, Scottish Power, and
the Office of the Solicitor to the Scottish Executive. |
