Was your summer placement relevant?
Yes – you see how some of your university work applies in the “real world”, but you also realise that you have got a lot more to learn!

How helpful was your summer placement in giving you an insight into a career in law?
Working in an individual practice area allows you to see a real team in action – you see the variety of work that comes in, and also how the work is divided within the team. It becomes clear early on in the placement that team working is vital to a successful legal career.

How well did your summer placement meet your expectations?
It exceeded them. McGrigors invest well in their summer students and this is evident from the start.

How friendly were the McGrigors staff you met during your placement?
Everyone was friendly. As a summer student you are constantly asking people for help. At McGrigors nobody seemed to mind helping out – this included the partners! It makes a real difference working in a relaxed office.

Describe your experience overall?
McGrigors is a great place to do a summer placement. All work is set at an appropriate level which means that whilst it is challenging, it is achievable. The weekly reviews also provide the perfect opportunity to raise any concerns which you might have. You are constantly encouraged to get involved in staff events, from lunches out to the Firm’s hockey matches.

Overall, what was the best thing about your summer placement - why?
The buddy system at McGrigors is great because it ensures that there is always someone there to answer any questions or just to point you in the right direction. You are never left feeling that you are on your own. You don’t feel embarrassed about asking them questions because they were in your shoes not that long ago.

Overall, what was the worst thing about your summer placement why?
The thought of doing a presentation is quite scary; however, as long as you do your homework, you are fine. You just have to remember that you know more about your chosen subject than the panel do.
